Apply for a Scholarship

*This year’s scholarship application is closed (applications must be received by September 15).

Up to three scholarships in the amount of $350 each are awarded in the fall for qualified past students of the Steveston Japanese Language School. We are pleased to have two of these scholarships sponsored by the Gulf and Fraser Financial Group.

Please read the information below to determine your eligibility.

1. Steveston Japanese Language School – G&F Financial Group Scholarships

Scholarships in the amount of $350 each are available for two qualified applicants who attended the Saturday High School (Intermediate) Level Classes.

Purpose of the Scholarship

  1. To assist the student with his/her post secondary education.
  2. To encourage the student to continue his/her Japanese language studies at the school for as long as possible.
  3. To further the student’s interest in Japanese language.
  4. To assist the parents/guardians of the student as a token of appreciation for their support of the school for many years while the student attended the school.

Eligibility – Who can apply?

  1. The student is a high school graduate who will be attending an accredited post secondary institution such as university, college or technical institution.
  2. The student has completed at least 4 years at the Intermediate level (Saturday classes) between levels 1 and 5.
  3. The student must apply within two years of graduating from high school.

Other criteria for consideration after the applicant meets the above eligibility

  1. The student has attained an above average scholastic achievement in his final year of high school. A transcript from high school should accompany the applicant.
  2. The student is a “good to outstanding” student at the Steveston Japanese Language School with good attendance record. The history of report cards from school files at the Steveston Japanese Language School will be reviewed by the principal and the scholarship committee.
  3. The student exhibits capability of leadership and respect from his peers.
  4. The student submits the letter-style personal resume which includes the information of extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, dance, community service, work, etc.
  5. Proof of registration at the post-secondary school must accompany the application.
  6. If selected as a scholarship recipient, the student consents to his/her name being published on the Steveston Japanese Language School’s website.

Application for the scholarship

  1. Students may download the application form at the link below, or pick one up from the school office.
  2. The application form with necessary credentials should be returned to the attention of the Principal of the Steveston Japanese Language School after enrolment into the post secondary school in order for the committee to review the applications.
  3. Applications must be received by September 15.
  4. The application form and required documents should be sent to:

 Scholarship Award

The confirmation letter of the scholarship award will be mailed to the awardee after the review.

2. Steveston Japanese Language School Scholarship

Purpose of the Scholarship

  5. The amount of the scholarship is $350.
  6. One scholarship per year will be made available for qualified students who apply.

  2. The student has attended the Steveston Japanese Language School for a minimum of 6 years beginning in Grade 1 at the earliest.
  3. The student must apply for the scholarship within two years of graduating from high school.
