Registration Form (Child Students) 2025-2026

Thank you for registering your child(ren) at the Steveston Japanese Language School. Please read the following IMPORTANT information on our general policies.
本校にご登録いただき、ありがとうございます。入学受付に関し、下記をお読みください。

1. Payment / 支払い

Payment is required in full by credit card at time of registration. Consideration for payment by instalments with post-dated cheques are at the discretion of the Steveston Japanese Language School. If you wish to be considered for payment by instalments, contact the school by email at info@sjls.ca. If paying by instalments, please see the following note regarding NSF cheques.

お申し込み時にクレジットカードで全額をお支払いいただきます。Post-dated小切手による分割払いに関してはスティーブストン日本語学校の裁量に一任されます。分割払いをご希望の場合は学校までメール（info@sjls.ca）でお知らせください。分割払いに関しては、下記の不渡り小切手についての注意点もお読みください。

Note: Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Cheques / 注：不渡り小切手

In the event of an NSF cheque, a fee including a $45 NSF charge, the amount of the NSF cheque, plus any outstanding tuition must be paid immediately by e-transfer upon notification from the school. Until such outstanding amount is paid in full by e-transfer, attendance to school may be suspended or may result in termination.

不渡り小切手（NSF）が出た場合は、学校からの通知に応じて、45ドルの銀行手数料を含む手数料、NSF小切手分、未払いの授業料を至急e-transferでお支払いください。全額納金されるまで授業は受けられません。解決されない場合は退学になりますのでご了承ください。

2. Refund Procedure / 授業料返金について

If a student wishes to withdraw from a term, a withdrawal form must be submitted to the school prior to the beginning of the third lesson in the term to receive a pro-rated tuition refund. No refunds will be issued if the withdrawal form is submitted after the beginning of the third lesson in the term.

A $45.00 administrative fee is charged per each withdrawing student. Withdrawal forms are available upon request at the school office or by emailing info@sjls.ca.

Once the withdrawal form is submitted, we will do our best to process the refund refund promptly. However, please note that processing times may extend up to 14 business days, with an additional 4 to 14 days for the funds to be posted to your credit card account.

Note: If you decide to withdraw, please submit your form before June 15th or after September 8th. Withdrawal forms that are submitted between June 15th and September 8th inclusive will NOT be processed until the school term begins in September.

途中退学を希望する場合、各学期の 2 回目の授業まではその分の授業料を差し引いて返金しますので、3回目の授業より前に指定の退学届けを提出してください。3 回目の授業が始まったあとに提出された場合は、その学期の授業料の返金はありません。

なお、退学する生徒１人につき45ドルの退学手数料を差し引かせて頂きます。退学届けは学校オフィスまで、メール（ info@sjls.ca ）で請求してください。

退学届けが受理されますと、迅速に返金処理を行いますが、処理には最大14営業日、クレジットカード口座への反映にはさらに4～14日かかる場合がありますのでご了承ください。

注：登録を取り下げる、または退学をする場合は６月１５日までに、または９月８日以降に退学届けを提出してください。６月１５日から９月８日までの期間に提出された退学届けは、新学期が始まる９月まで返金処理はされません。

3. Membership / メンバーシップ

Parents and guardians of children enrolled in the school are granted automatic membership in the Steveston Japanese Language School Society, but only one membership shall be granted per family. Members can influence the manage of the school by casting their votes at the Annual General Meeting or through an extraordinary general meeting if convened. In cases where membership for a family is registered in the name of two or more individuals, only one of the members is eligible to vote.

生徒の保護者は自動的にスティーブストン日本語学校のメンバーとなります。メンバーには年次総会や臨時総会での投票を通して学校の運営に影響を与えることができますが、メンバーシップは一家族につきひとつのみです。一家族の複数の人がメンバーシップに登録されている場合は、ひとりだけ投票できます。

4. Volunteering / ボランティア

The Steveston Japanese Language School is a non-profit charitable society run by parents, guardians, and other members who volunteer to be on the Board of Directors. To keep the tuition fees reasonable, to operate the school soundly, and to build community, volunteering is essential. We may request that each member volunteer at least once this year as needed, and additional contributions are always welcome and appreciated. The school is an active part of the Steveston community, and as such we participate in many of the local events, including the Canada Day Steveston Salmon Festival, Doors Open and the Cherry Blossom Festival. As a historically important, dedicated and prominent organization in our community, we need members to volunteer for these and other events. Your volunteerism benefits our school, our students and your child(ren).

当校は非営利団体で、保護者の皆様とボードメンバーの方々によって運営されています。歴史ある日系団体として、地域のイベント（カナダ・デーのサーモンフェスティバルや桜祭りなど）に積極的に参加し、その活動、貢献が高く評価されています。授業料をできるだけ抑えるためにはみなさんにボランティアで 支えていただくことが必須です。保護者の皆様にも最低年一度、もしくはそれ以上、ボランティア活動に参加いただきますようお願いいたします。

5. Code of Conduct / 行動規範

The school maintains a Code of Conduct Policy that all students, teachers and parents are required to adhere to. Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct may result in the suspension or expulsion of the student from the school.

本校には、すべての生徒、教師、保護者が守らなければならない行動規範を定めています。生徒がこの規範に従わない場合には退学または停学になる場合があります。

6. Parking / 駐車について

Driving into or parking in the lot in front of the school building to drop off or pick up your child(ren) is not permitted. This area is reserved for seniors, and having vehicle traffic in such a small space poses a serious safety risk with so many children around. Please use the main community centre parking lot facing Moncton Street instead.

生徒の送り迎えのために学校前の駐車場に駐車したり、建物付近まで運転することは禁止されています。学校前の駐車場はシニアの皆さんの専用駐車場です。また授業前後は歩いている生徒が多いので、建物付近の狭い場所への車の出入りは大変危険です。Moncton 通りに面した広い駐車場をご利用ください。

7. Drop-off and Pick-up / 送り迎えについて

Parents and guardians are responsible for dropping off and picking up children at the school building. Also, we ask parents and guardians to supervise and be responsible for children who may play outside the school building before and after the classes.

生徒の送り迎えは保護者の責任でお願いいたします。授業前後、学校の建物付近で遊んでいることもありますが、これも保護者の責任で監督してください。

8. Leaving the School Building During Class / 授業中、建物外に出ないことについて

Children are not allowed to leave the school building during recess unless special permission is granted by the teachers. Please contact your child’s teacher if your child(ren) need(s) to do so.

生徒は特別許可がない限り休み時間に学校の建物から出ることを禁じられています。特別許可が必要な場合は保護者が前もって担任に連絡をしてください。

9. Preschool Children / プリスクールクラスの入学条件

Children who are entering the preschool classes must be turning 3 years old by December 31, 2025. If attending an in-person class, please let the teacher know if they are not toilet trained.

2025 年 12 月末までに 3 歳の誕生日を迎える子供のみ入学出来ます。対面授業の場合、 9 月に入学するまでにおむつが取れていない場合はご報告ください。

10. Privacy Act / 個人情報の管理について

Personal information collected on the registration form will assist the school authority in making informed decisions as to your child(ren)’s suitability, appropriate placement, and safety in the school. It will also allow the school to respond immediately to emergencies. Steveston Japanese Language School does not share personal information with any other organizations, contractors or services for purposes other than those stated above. In addition, teachers, staff and the Board are required to respect and protect the confidentiality of all student information.

登録用紙に記入された個人情報は、学校が各生徒の適切なクラス編成の参考にしたり、緊急事態への迅速な対応や安全をはかるために収集されています。スティーブストン日本語学校は個人情報を当学校以外の第三者に上記の目的以外に提供いたしません。教師、スタッフ、及び理事会は個人情報の安全管理を尊重し厳守します。

11. Photographs / 写真など

On occasion, the Steveston Japanese Language School will use photos and work samples of students in the media, on our website and in promotional materials. In principle, the school will not publish the names of our students. If names are to be shown, the school will obtain approval from parents/guardians in advance.

学校のホームページや学校の資料などに、時折、生徒の写真や作品を載せたり、メディアに提供したりすることがあります。その際、原則として生徒の氏名は公表しません。しかし公表する場合は前もって保護者から許可を得た場合のみにいたします。

12. School Closures / 臨時休校について

Unplanned closures of the school may occur on days when weather, facility or other conditions make in-person attendance hazardous for staff and students. In these circumstances, parents will be notified of the in-person class closure as soon as possible by email. Please note there will be no refund or makeup classes.

天候の悪化や施設その他の状況により、スタッフと生徒の通勤・通学に危険が予測される場合は、休校 になる可能性があります。そのような場合は Eメールでお知らせしますので、ご確認ください。なお、 臨時休校に関しては授業料の返金、振替授業はありません。

The Steveston Japanese Language School (SJLS) is obligated to provide a safe, positive, and productive learning environment for all of our students, staff, and members of our school community.

To this end, the code of conduct applies to everyone in our school and at school-related functions.

As we learn and work together, we will:

1. Be respectful of teachers, students, and other members of our school community.
2. Behave in a safe, considerate, and courteous manner.
3. Respect the diversity of the school community.
4. Respect and treat others fairly, regardless of (for example), race, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental ability, sexual orientation, gender or expression, or age.
5. Not threaten, harass, intimidate, or assault, in any way, any person within our school community, through physical violence, offensive language, verbal abuse, print or electronic media.
6. Not be in possession of weapons, dangerous articles, alcohol, or illegal drugs while in school or school-related functions.
7. Show respect and pride in the Steveston Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre building and school equipment through care and appropriate use of school property.
8. Respect the non-smoking environment of our school.

Any violation of the code of conduct will warrant intervention and/or disciplinary actions.

Expectation of Students:

As described in the Code of Conduct, students are expected to behave in a respectful and non-disruptive behaviour towards teachers and staff, other students, parents, and guests of our school community. Actions such as name calling, swearing, physical aggression (including hitting and pushing), and any behaviour perceived as threatening are strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated.

Should the behaviours of individual students make it difficult or impossible for teachers to provide a safe and/or productive learning environment, the following steps will be taken:

1. The adult student, or if a child, the student’s parents/guardians, will be provided with a first written notice of violation of the Code of Conduct.
2. If the issues are not resolved following the first notice, the adult student or parents/guardians will receive a second written notification. For children, a meeting with teachers and the principal will be held to create a plan to improve the student’s behaviour involving the active participation of the student’s parents/guardians.
3. All reasonable efforts will be made by the school to work together with the adult student or parents/guardians to resolve the issues. However, if the student’s behaviour does not improve after these steps, the school will ask the student(s) in question to withdraw from the program. As such, SJLS reserves the right to withdraw students who repeatedly violate the school’s Code of Conduct.

Expectation of Parents:

Support and encourage your child to follow the school’s Code of Conduct.

Recognize that you are partners in your child’s education and actively participate in your child’s learning of the Japanese language and culture.

Provide opportunities for an open and ongoing dialogue with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress and conduct.

Expectation of Volunteers and Board of Directors:

While it is not possible to list all forms of behaviour that are considered acceptable or unacceptable, the following is a partial list of the types of behaviour or conduct that are expected:

• Treating others with respect, dignity and impartiality;
• Avoiding practices which force or infer exclusion;
• Behaving in an honest, trustworthy and ethical manner;
• Maintaining appropriate office etiquette (this includes timeliness and adequate preparation for meetings), if applicable

Note that prior to the submission of your registration, you will confirm that you have read and agree to these policies and Code of Conduct as described herein.

By completing this form, whether through online or paper submission, the Participant or the Participant’s Parent/Legal Guardian agrees that while attending or participating in classes, events, or other activities of the Steveston Japanese Language School (SJLS) or attending the SJLS facilities, the Participant:

オンラインまたは紙での提出にかかわらず、スティーブストン日本語学校（SJLS）の生徒またはその保護者は、SJLSの授業、行事、またはその他の活動に参加する際、またはSJLSの施設内で受講する際は、以下の内容に同意するものとします。

1. Will complete a health check* before participating in SJLS activities and/or entering SJLS facilities;
   SJLSの授業や行事に参加する前、またはSJLSの施設に入る前に、ヘルスチェック*を行います。
2. Will, in the event that the Participant experiences any symptoms of illness, immediately:
   生徒が病気の症状に気づいたら即座に以下の事を行います。
   • Informs a representative of the SJLS, and
     SJLSの代表者に知らせ、
   • Depart from the event or facility, or be picked up by a parent/guardian as soon as possible in the case of a child;
     参加中の授業・行事または施設から離れます。子供の場合は、できるだけ早く保護者に迎えに来てもらいます。
3. Will sanitize any school equipment used with approved cleaning products provided by the SJLS;
   SJLSが提供する承認済みのクリーニング用品を使って、使用した学校の備品を消毒します。
4. Understands that if they do not abide by the aforementioned guidelines and protocols, they may be asked to leave the event or class;

5. Acknowledges that there are risks associated with entering the SJLS facilities and/or participating in the SJLS activities, and that the measures taken by the SJLS and participants will not entirely eliminate those risks.

1. The wellbeing of your child. Without proper rest, a child may have a hard time fighting an illness or be at risk for other illnesses.

2. The ability of your child to actively take part and learn at school.

4. The protection of other children.

Please keep your child home if they:
次のような場合はお休みさせてください：

• Have a fever -Are too sick to take part in all normal school activities.

• Have a suspected or known communicable disease (i.e. strep throat, chicken pox, measles).
  伝染病（溶連菌感染症、水ぼうそう、はしかなど）の疑いがある、またはすでにかかっている。
• Is vomiting or has diarrhea. It is recommended that students be symptom free at least 24 hours before returning to school.
  嘔吐または下痢をしている。学校に戻る前に、少なくとも24時間は症状がないことが推奨されている。

Keep your child home until they are able to participate fully in normal school activities or as told by a health care provider.
通常の学校活動に完全に参加できるようになるまで、または医療提供者の指示があるまで、お子さんをお休みさせてください。

If the school finds it necessary to send your child home because of illness, please make sure you have arranged an emergency contact if you are not available.
