Introducing the School’s New Volunteer Coordinator
新しいボランティア・コーディネーターの紹介

Steveston Japanese Language School has become more active in school events and fundraising activities (new year’s party, waffle and omochi sale, etc) as well as community related events (Richmond Doors Open, Salmon Festival, Chinese medicine workshop, etc) for the last few years.

ここ数年間で、スティーブストン日本語学校の行事やイベントは増え、又ファンドレージングの活動も広がり始めて います。従来からの学校行事（お正月パーティー、運動会等）に加えて、コミュニティーに関連したイベント（リッ チモンド・ドアーズ・オープン、サーモン・ファスティバル、中医学講習会等）があります。又、ファンドレージン グの活動（ワッフルとおもちセール等）も活発になってまいりました。

Ever since the school was founded in 1960 (and the original Steveston Japanese School existed between 1911 – 1941), it has been the school motto to get involved and make a contribution to the community. Therefore in order to run these activities smoothly, we have been searching a “volunteer coordinator” who will recruit volunteers and coordinate the work. Mrs. Takako Suga gladly accepted this role.

コミュ二ティーに積極的に係わり、日本語教育を通して社会に貢献するのが 1960 年に設立された本校（その前身であ るスティーブストン日本人学校は 1911—1941 年まで存続した）の理念であるので、この傾向はとても喜ばしいことで す。 そこでこのような活動をスムーズに進める為に、保護者ボランティアの方々のまとめ役をして下さる方が是非 必要となってきました。必要に応じてボランティアを集めて、コーディネートして下さる 方を探していたところ、 「須賀孝子さん」がボランティア・コーディネーターを引き受けて下さることになりました。

There are several occasions during a school year and each time several volunteers whose work will take 2- 4 hours will be needed. You may be contacted and asked to get involved in an event. We will be cautious not to ask too much work on each person. Of course you can decline if you are not available. However, if more parents are willing to support the events, less work will fall on an individual. And you may find that working together can be fun and rewarding.

行事とイベントは年間数回あり、１回につき数人のボランティアが必要で、2-4 時間程度の仕事になります。須賀さん から連絡があり、ボランティアをお願いすることがあります。保護者の方には、負担になる程の仕事はお願いしない ように気をつけることは勿論、出来ないときはお断り下さってかまいません。でもお子様の為に多くの方ができる範 囲でお手伝い下さると、一人ひとりの負担が減り、楽しく活動できると思います。須賀さんからの連絡を待たずに、 出来る範囲でのボランティア活動に関心のある方、 又、個人的な理由で須賀さんからの連絡を受け取りたくない保護 者の方もオフィスまでご連絡下さるか、E メール或は電話にて２月２日までにご連絡をお願いします。

If you are interested in volunteering for the school, you don’t need to wait for Mrs. Suga to contact you. Instead, please inform one of the staff in the school office, email or phone us. As well as if you do not want to receive any contact for your personal reasons, please inform the office, email or phone the school by February 02.

For those who volunteer regularly, it would be possible to get a reference when you seek employment. Also, for high school students who need volunteer hours are welcome.

このようなボランティア活動を定期的にして下さっている方には、就職活動の際、レファレンスになることも可能で す。 又、ボランティアアワーが必要な高校生も歓迎致します。
